EASTERN PAINTED TURTLE Chrysemys picta

Length: Up to 9 inches long.                                                    

Color: Red, yellow, and Black.

Habitat: Vegetated ponds, lakes and streams

Range: Southeastern Canada through New England and the Atlantic coast states to northern Georgia and eastern Alabama.

Diet: Aquatic insects, their larvae or nymphs and other invertebrates, particularly snails, and small pieces of lily pads

Notes: There are two species of Painted Turtle in Connecticut, the Eastern and the Midland.  They hibernate at the bottom of ponds.
