ATLANTIC GREEN TURTLE  Chelonia mydas

Length: 35-48 inches                                                  

Color: Light to dark brown, olive green, and bluish black.

Habitat: Shallow ocean waters inside reefs and in bays and inlets.

Range: Green turtles live in warm tropical waters from New England to South Africa and in the Pacific from Western Africa to the Americas.

Where in CT?: Long Island Sound in summer.

Diet: Almost exclusively seaweed (turtlegrass) and green algae, and occasionally mollusks, crustaceans and jellyfish.

Notes: They are an endangered species.  They are the biggest Sea Turtle in Long Island Sound.  They can live to be over 100 years old.
