EASTERN RIBBON SNAKE  Thamnophis sauritus

Length: 18-26 inches                                                         

Color: Usually black or brown with three yellow stripes.

Habitat: It is semi-aquatic.  It never wanderers far from water.  It tries to avoid deep water.

Range: South New England to Kentucky to Alabama to Florida.

Diet: Salamanders, frogs, and small fish.

Notes: Does not do well in captivity.  Every time the lid is opened, it will frantically try to escape.  Stays at the surface of shallow ponds a lot.
