TIMBER RATTLESNAKE  Crotalus horridus

Length: 36-54 inches.                                                 

Color: Black with brown stripes or yellow with brown stripes.

Habitat: Mountainous terrain, high elevation.

Range: New Hampsire to Georgia to Iowa to Texas

Where in Connecticut?: Mostly in the Glastonbury-Portland-East Hamton area of Central Connecticut and the hills of the north western and west-central parts of the state.

Diet: Rodents and birds.

Notes: This snake is very venomous.  Like the copperhead, it is passive and will not attack unless you really bother it.  It has two phases, the yellow phase and the black phase.
