WHITE-TAILED DEER Odocoileus virginianus Length: 60-90 inches
long.
Color: Brown and White.
Habitat: Wooded areas.
Range: Southern Canada and most of the United States, except for the Southwest, Alaska
and Hawaii.
Diet: They commonly eat green plants in the summer, corn, acorns and other nuts in the
fall, and the buds and twigs of woody plants in the winter.
Notes: Deer are very good runners. They can run at speeds of up to 30 miles an hour.
They are also good leapers, swimmers, and garden-ruiners. My mom had a garden which
was nearly destroyed by a deer. The deer was a doe and my mom thought that it looked
like a lonely old woman so she named it Gertrude. Unfortunately, it stayed and
almost destroyed her garden. These deer are very common and tame. Lately, the
White-Tailed Deer's population has been going through the roof because of the decline of
its natural predators. Now humans are their main predators.
